If you haven’t already checked out the “Everything You Need to Ace…” book series by Workman’s Publishing, you’re in for a treat! These books are designed to provide students with a complete study guide on the given topic and include illustrations, graphics, and annotations that are appealing, helpful for navigating the text, and perfectly in tune with middle school students.
This series includes books on the topics of Math, Science, World History, American History, English Language Arts, and now the latest edition, Computer Science and Coding.
Given that our world is increasingly becoming more digital, having knowledge of computer science and coding will ultimately provide students with a direct advantage when they eventually head out into the workforce. Not to mention, kids today are so engulfed in technology. How neat would it be if they not only used technology, but were able to also CREATE their own new technology as well!
Another thing I love about this book is that not only does it provide valuable information about computer science and coding, but it’s also an excellent model for teaching students how to effectively write and organize notes. The book’s tagline states that the notes “are borrowed from the SMARTEST KID in class.” Obviously, we could all learn a lot from that student by reading his or her notes!
This is definitely a book I will be bringing back to my classroom when we head back next year. Considering my students already love the other books in the series, I know there will be lots of students eager to get their hands on this one so they can start coding and creating their own technology!
If you’d like to add this book to your classroom or home library as well, you can grab it here from Amazon.
