Nonfiction Text Features Surgery Activity – Editable Version Available!

Looking for a way to engage your students while introducing them to nonfiction text features? Then check out this Text Features Surgery activity!

Have students search through nonfiction magazines or articles to find various text features and then “surgically remove them” aka cut them out, paste them down, and record doctor’s notes explaining the purpose of the text feature.

Make this activity even more engaging by having students dress up like actual surgeons!

This product contains:

• Directions and suggested tips on how to plan this activity
• Text Features Surgery PDF packet containing nine different surgical steps. Students search for six teacher given text features, two text features of their own choice, and then complete a reflection of the activity.
• An editable version on PowerPoint so teachers can change the wording or specific text features they want their students to locate.
